 Home>Who we are>Annual report
Chinese community is one of the biggest communities in Brighton and Hove. Up till now, more than 2620 local Chinese have been supported by our CEDP with small grants, donation from different resources and Brighton and Hove city council and Community fund.

The project intends to help the Chinese community resident in and around the city of Brighton and Hove by 1) providing free information, advice and counselling in relation to specific educational and training opportunities and the UK educational system/ requirements in general; 2) providing ongoing support and help both in relation to education/ training opportunities and in respect of the community’s wider concerns through the operation of a bilingual helpline and e-group 3) organizing training activities designed to facilitate an understanding of and access to education/training opportunities 4) providing cultural awareness training for educational and training service providers and 5) organizing cultural events and activities to promote community awareness both within the Chinese community and between this and other ethnic groups. We are aiming at improving the employment

According to our work record, nearly 70% CEDP service users are looking for education, training and employment opportunities in Brighton and Hove. About 10% help on housing and accommodation. There are demands for legal matters, emotional support, IT training, translation and travel information. However, due to staff shortage, we can only provide limited information on those issues and refer our service users to other relevant service providers such as immigration legal services and Citizen Advice Burum. We are fully aware that we are playing a vital role in bridging the gap between Chinese and British education and culture. How to guide our service users to the existing British education and training system , and how to assist them to have a better chance in the future employment with no racial discrimination, are the goals we are hoping to achieve.

Currently we have 12 voluntary staff who have been through both the Chinese and British higher education. We are all dedicating to what we are doing. Staff members are requested to attend various trainings and workshops to update their knowledge in related fields. We work in a strong team and five management team members have regular meeting to discuss the best way to support voluntary staff.

In order to deliver better quality and quantity services in the near future, we would like to stabilize and expand the team. It hasn't been an easy job for us, and we know it won’t be easy in the future either. However with all the supports from our team members, other community groups, local government, and our funding providers, we firmly believe that we can achieve our goals. CEDP is run for the purpose of improving the quality life. We will continue our mission.
